The birth of Julia Grace Salon took place only after the birth of Berget-Barnaby's two daughters, Julia and Grace, after whom the salon is named. While Berget-Barnaby supports both her daughters and her salon's development, it was her hometown banker in New Glarus, Sugar River Bank, that helped to finalcially support Julia Grace Salon and turn Berget-Barnaby's dream into a reality.
Having owned and operated a salon in Colorado, Berget-Barnaby already had an idea of how she wanted to run her business. "If you treat people with respect, you get it back in return, " she said of her customers and employees.
Julia Grace Salon attempts to create a unique salon atmosphere which consists of employees and independent beauty contractors, offering diversity in style and substance. "I have a great staff," said a grateful Berget-Barnaby after recently leaving them unsupervised while she vacationed for 11 days.
While there will always be challenges when opening a new business, the construction of the 1,400 square-foot Julia Grace Salon in the Princeton Club West went smoothly with the help of The Renschler Company. The salon is open to club members and non-members, alike, and it strikes a chord with parents because daycare is provided by the club for a small fee.
Knowing what she knows about the salon business, does Berget-Barnaby envision her own children, Julia, age 10, and Grace, age 8 - taking over their salon namesake? "if they're interested, that would be great, but I would never force it on them," she replied. "You just never know!"
